Choosing the right material for the job
Material properties are a fundamental consideration in product design. Alright, Christmas had been and gone, the dense fruit cake is nothing but a distant memory and the occasional twinge of indigestion, and last thing you probably want to see now is yet another Christmas tree. Especially, since you’re probably still struggling to remove pine needles off your carpet. This post, however, is less about the joy of giving/overeating/tree decorating/believing in Santa/holidays. None of those, in fact. The tree is merely an example of how to decide which material is most suitable for the job at hand. In this case, the job at hand is making a small decorative Xmas tree that can double up as a jewellery tree. Constraints: smallish in size for economical production flatpacking but free-standing easy to assemble durable engraved logo/branding (in case I forget that I designed it) Material Pros Cons 1mm styrene Engraves well Poor edge quality in detail

The List: What I’m Loving/Hating Right Now
So, just for a bit of fun, I’m going to write about the stuff I’m currently loving right now, and others that I’m not so much. What I’m Loving… My new MAC compact in NC27. Works like a charm. It’s protecting my skin from winter dryness, and that’s always a plus point in my book! School parking. Since January, I got a school parking permit so that I can drive directly to school and it has taken such a load off my mind. I get to school/home so much faster now and the cold weather is not a hassle anymore! Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer . I bought it once before and didn’t like it, but when I still kept hearing great reviews about it I decided to try it out again… and now I’m in love. It’s like a moisturizing shield that keeps your skin looking fresh all day. My jewellery tree . It just makes my whole table look so pretty. Pashminas ! When I first started wearing the hijab, I used to wear the more thinner materials that tend to go better with fancier clothes.

shop style: shop handmade
The store itself is a beautifully done with a mix of blank-canvas Ikea pieces and second-hand finds like revamped furniture, old suitcases for storage and cute and quirky displays like a wheelbarrow of scarves, a tree of jewellery and hairclips, and bread bins as shelves. Speaking of which, I totally ripped off that idea and used it for my bamboo steamer shelves . There is a wishing wall where you can drop hints to the hubby about what you’d like for your next Big Occasion and the window changes often with too-cute displays inviting passers-by in. I want to pick it all up and transport it to my town. In fact, I’ve thought about doing something similar myself. It’s another addition to my if I have the money and time lists. Maybe one day.
